Bouldering and more bouldering

PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 15 September 2009

Tobey and his crew have been busy... They have extended the steel for the super long bouldering wall over into the new area. They have just about wrapped up welding the steel structure and paneling continues to progress as you can see in the left image. The wall features a significant overhang, dihedrals and an amazing bulge (see right image).

This should make for some great problems and setting opportunities.

Columbia Expansion progress

Friday, 11 September 2009

Sorry to not have kept you updated for a few days now... With Labor Day and some other programs and event that occurred this past week, most of the wall progress was not that "photogenic". While very necessary and even cool, showing you pictures of wiring, new paint, HVAC duct work, drain pipes and the fabrication of a new front desk just doesn't really translate well to a blog. Sorry Mac (Mac is busy right now welding up our new front desk and was disappointed that I didn't snap some pics). I'll get ya next time.

Pre-Labor Day Cave update

PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 04 September 2009

For the past two days, I have tried to get some good pictures of the new cave in Columbia. With out a fish-eye lens, it proved to be too daunting... But then, while I was playing with some image in PhotoShop, I realized that I could just "stitch" a few together in a panorama. It is kind of a hasty job, but you will start to get a much better sense of what Tobey and his crew are envisioning for the new cave (soon to be more aptly referred to as the far-left-hand-side of the bouldering wall). The cave is not quite all paneled yet in preparation for adding more steel structure to the right.  It's a big picture (1200 px x 600 px) so sorry those of you with small monitors.

Enjoy the long weekend and please remember that all the gyms are closed for the holiday on Monday.

Lead/TR wall update

Wednesday, 02 September 2009

Craig from Nilepoc Media sent me these two amazing photos of the Lead/TR wall in all of its wood grandeur. It will never been seen like this again as Tobey and his team from TnT Climbing Walls is installing the framework for the concrete-based texture today. Texture application will follow shortly. Check them out and visit the Nilepoc page on facebook if you wish.

Bouldering Cave Update

Monday, 31 August 2009

A lot happened over the weekend and Monday in terms of construction. The original Columbia cave saw the finishing touches of steel superstructure welded together by Tobey of TnT Climbing Walls. Yesterday, it even got some paneling installed! I hope to post more of those pictures shortly, but have to show you these first... We were fortunate enough to have Craig from Nilepoc Media drop by and take the cool shots seen here. You can check out more on the Gallery Page too. It looks like we may get the cave up and running in about 4 weeks!

The expansion space also saw some significant progress with the new demising walls (structure walls, not climbing walls) getting a coat of paint and the Lead/TR wall getting prepped from texturing.
